A word from our founder...

At i.e.Presents we seek a process and an environment where innovative artistry thrives along with human connection. We don't see those ideals as unattainable or mutually exclusive. Focusing on specific projects, rather than fulfilling a predetermined schedule, frees us up to see the piece through to the end.

What is the "i.e." about? That is a short way of saying, "In other words...", "that is to say", "to wit", or "namely". Translated from the Latin "id est" Nancy chose this abbreviation in honor of her wildly creative late mother who studied Latin & cello in college while teaching ballroom dancing. She went on to enjoy photography, filmmaking, and on-air radio work all while developing professionally as a corporate Human Resources Specialist. For us, the "i" and "e" represent a fluid list of rich verbiage. Call us incapable of executive decision making if it floats your boat, but we prefer not to be limited. Intentional Exuberance, Infinite Expressions, Intuitive Energy, Irresistible Explorations, are several of the defining combinations that led us to believe that we need not settle on just one. Taken separately there are still more options; intrinsic, integrity, invigorating, experiences, experiment, innovative, endeavors, enthusiasm, incandescent, etc. Perhaps our various projects will highlight certain renditions one at a time...

The "Presents" part of our name serves the more practical side of a title. It's nice and tall, helping the i.e. part look important & grown up enough to be taken seriously AND makes it clear we are presenting something. When you say our name I think it's fitting and natural to say it in the verb form, can you tell I taught English? :) However, we are also considering its noun form in the sense of gifts, or gifted ness. We trust this is a company that will offer high quality artistic work from truly gifted writers, performers, designers, and speakers. We are also counting on the ACTION oriented aspect of producing these works to put them forward. The abbreviation "i.e." specifies or makes more clear what the writer wants to say. As a creative writing teacher I was always trying to help my students develop their own voice. I feel that my theatrical background was incredibly helpful in that task and I utilize it every day. i.e. highlights the idea of choosing our words carefully, thoughtfully, with strategic intent. It also conveys our value for focusing on one specific project at a time. Fleshing that out in a published work, a stage production, film, or speaking engagement is our joy and privilege. Thank you for engaging with our work! If you want to join in just shoot us an email at theatersanjose@gmail.com.
