   Jim Culley holds a Master's degree in Technical Theatre from San José State and a Master of Fine Arts in Theatrical Design from The University of Texas in Austin. He graduated from Campbell High School in 1960. He retired from San Jose State University in Spring 2013 where he was the Resident Scenic Designer and the Technical Director for the Department of Television, Radio, Film and Theatre.

   Professor Culley taught courses in theatrical design and scenery construction as well as computer graphics, including 3D modeling, web graphics, and CAD drafting. As resident designer at San José State University, Professor Culley designed over thirty main stage productions, including All My Sons, A Glass Menagerie, A Street Car Named Desire, One Flew Under the Cuckoo’s Nest, Of Mice and Men, Emma, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Bury the Dead. He supervised the training program for stage managers, and was the faculty advisor for the design and technical student.  He served on numerous Department and College committees.

   For the past 15 years Professor Culley has designs professionally for the San Jose Children’s Musical Theatre. Among his most favorite designs are his set designs for Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Honk, Rag Time, Tommy, Miss Saigon. Les Miserable, and Alice in Wonderland,

Professor Culley has also designed for the Barn Theatre in Augusta Michigan, for the University of Texas at Austin, for the Cabrillo Stage Company and the California Stage Company in Sunnyvale, among others.

   He is pleased to be working with Nancy and her team on this production of The Last Five Years and is excited to be designing for a production to be staged at The Theatre on San Pedro Square.
